This is another of our highlights of the various artists that will be appearing at the Silopanna Music Festival on August 27th at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds.
Fitz and the The Tantrums? Sounds like a band we missed at Warped, but no. Like Sharon Jones, I had never heard of them, but then took a listen (had an “aha moment” when I recalled the HTC commercial) and really liked them. I am not sure what genre they fall into. The music is definitely good and I can see why VH-1 has them pegged as a band to watch. Take a look and let me know what you think. For the record, they say it is Motown influenced Indie Pop–sort of like those invitations you get calling for “Annapolis Casual” or “Tropical Chic” dress–what the hell is that?
What is different about this band is the absence of any guitars. I know sacrilege–no guitars, but lead singer Michael Fitzpatrick talked about that in a recent interview, “I did want to try and make a big sounding record without guitars,” he said. “For me, I just feel like in any music that has a band, the guitar is always there, it’s always featured, it’s always prevalent. I’m just sick of hearing it.”
Call me a new fan. I will be at the Silopanna Music Festival grooving with Fitz and the Tantrums along with Trombone Shorty, and Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings as well. Get your tickets here!
