This is another of our highlights of the various artists that will be appearing at the Silopanna Music Festival on August 27th at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds.

OK,  I will admit it. I had never heard of Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings until I heard they were playing Silopanna. So I checked them out. Impressive. And then I saw Sharon on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and was hooked. If you ever were longing for the good old days of Motown, give Sharon Jones a listen.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are considered  a funk/soul band. They are at the head of a revivalist movement that aims to capture the essence of funk/soul music as it was at its height in the mid-1960s to mid-1970s. (Motown anyone?) Part of the way this is achieved is to shun modern digital recording methods in favor of using traditional analog recording equipment. The instruments used by the band may also be considered limited as well–since they are those that were only available up till the mid 70s.

Call me a new fan. I will be at the Silopanna Music Festival jamming not only to Trombone Shorty, but Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings as well. Get your tickets here!
