Carnival Cruise Ship Speeding Back To Baltimore To Outrun Irene. Carnival Cruise Lines said one of its ships is speeding back to Baltimore ahead of Hurricane Irene.Carnival said the Carnival Pride is well ahead of the storm and has increased speed to arrive off the Mid-Atlantic coast by late Friday.The ship was scheduled to end the voyage on Sunday, when Irene is expected to pass the Maryland coast. The cruise line said it is continuing to monitor the weather, and the storm’s track and will terminate the voyage early if necessary.

Police: Flanagan Died Of Self Inflicted Gunshot Wound. Baltimore County police confirmed Thursday afternoon that longtime Baltimore Orioles pitcher Mike Flanagan took his own life.Police said Flanagan died from a shotgun blast to the head, according to I-Team lead investigative reporter Jayne Miller. There was no note, Miller reported. Police said Flanagan had been trying to cope with financial problems, she said.His body was discovered Wednesday afternoon behind his home in Monkton.

Ocean City Evacuates, MD Preps For Irene.  Ocean City began evacuating all people who weren’t emergency personnel late Thursday night, as Hurricane Irene churns up the coast, threatening to be one of the worst storms Maryland has seen in years.Store closures and evacuations began at midnight Thursday, but many people started heading out earlier. By 11 p.m. Thursday, 11 News reporter Sheldon Dutes said not many people were on the boardwalk. He said there was a steady flow of traffic leaving town and reported that some gas stations in the area were already out of gas.
