Weather Blog: Irene Making A Move. Hurricane Irene is on her way to becoming a major storm. The beautiful midday satellite image of Irene shows that the storm has yet to develop an eye as it passes just north of Puerto Rico. Interaction with Puerto Rico and Hispaniola may slow strengthening to some degree but Irene is expected to become a major storm with winds reaching 115 mph during the forecast period.

Search Yields Nothing In Aruba Missing Woman Case. Police in Aruba searched a brushy coastal area for seven hours Monday but found no new leads into the case of a Maryland woman who disappeared on the Dutch Caribbean island, a prosecution official said. The officers combed through the vegetation around Sereoe Colorado for the remains of the missing woman, Robyn Gardner, or anything that might link her travel companion, Gary Giordano, to her disappearance.Giordano has been detained on suspicion of involvement in the presumed death of the 35-year-old woman from Maryland. He has denied wrongdoing.

MD Jobs Tax Credit: Incentive Or Perk? President Barack Obama recently declared that his administration will roll out a new plan next month to jump start the economy.An element of that proposal, according to 11 News I-Team reporter David Collins, is an expansion of a jobs tax credit the state of Maryland offered to businesses last year.

Fire Ignites In Harbor Tunnel.  A fire ignited inside the Harbor Tunnel Thruway Monday afternoon, closing one of the spans of the tunnel for several hours.Officials closed the tunnel in both directions shortly after 5:40 p.m. but reopened the southbound lanes shortly thereafter. By 11 p.m., the northbound lanes remained closed.
