On August 24, 2011, at approximately 8:04 a.m., officers from the Eastern District responded to Route 100 eastbound just prior to the Oakwood Road exit for a serious crash.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male lying on the right shoulder of the roadway. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by fire department personnel. At that time, members of the Traffic Safety Section assumed responsibility for the investigation. Preliminary information obtained from witnesses indicates that the adult male victim was operating a tow truck and pulled over to assist a sewage truck that became disabled on the right shoulder. The tow truck operator was outside of his vehicle getting ready to tow the sewage truck when he was struck by a vehicle being described as an older model, red Nissan SUV with silver trim, possibly an Xterra or Pathfinder. The vehicle initially stopped at the scene, but then continued traveling eastbound on Route 100.

Currently, there is no description of the operator of that vehicle, but the vehicle should have sustained substantial damage to the front headlight assembly on the passenger side along with a missing traffic signal on the passenger side and a missing passenger side mirror. (black in color) Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the Anne Arundel County Police Department at 410-222-8610 or 9-1-1.
