Hyattsville Man Charged In Edgewater Arson

A Prince George County man has been charged with Arson after intentionally burning his ex-girlfriends car in the Edgewater area. 

The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, when Anne Arundel County Firefighters responded for a reported car fire in the 3300 block of Oak Drive in Edgewater. The first arriving units reported a car 100% involved with extension to a nearby dwelling.  In all, it took 25 firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the one alarm incident under control.  An investigation into the incident revealed that the fire was determined to be incendiary in nature.  The fire caused an estimated $ 5,100 in damages to the car and nearby dwelling. 

Based on information gathered at the scene Investigators were able to develop an identity of a suspect and a look out was established.  Moments after establishing a look out, the suspect was apprehended by Anne Arundel County Police about a mile from the incident scene.  The suspect was taken into custody and turned over to Anne Arundel County Fire Investigators.  

The suspect in this case has been identified as Felix A. Rivera of the 8400 block of Longfellow Street, Hyattsville, Maryland.  He has been charged with the following:

            § 6-102 – Attempted Arson in the first degree (Felony)

            § 6-103 – Arson in the second degree (Felony)

            § 6-104 – Malicious burning in the first degree (Felony)

            § 6-301-  Malicious Destruction of property (Misdemeanor)

            § 6-107 – Threat of Arson (Misdemeanor)

            § 3-204A1 – Reckless Endangerment (Misdemeanor)

Mr. Rivera is currently being held without bail at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Annapolis.  The investigation into this incident remains active and no additional information is currently available at this time.
