Annapolis Chorale To Perform 9/11 Remembrance Concerts

On Sunday, September 11, Live Arts Maryland Music Director J. Ernest Green will conduct two free concerts to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.  The Annapolis Chorale and Annapolis Chamber Orchestra will perform WA Mozart’s “Requiem” to honor those lost that day.   This is the same piece the Chorale performed on the first anniversary of 9/11 as part of the international Rolling Requiem.  Soloists for these performances are soprano Carolene Winter, mezzo Catrin Davies, tenor J Bitner and bass Brendan Cooke.

At 4 p.m. on the 11th, Mr. Green and the Chorale will perform the “Requiem” as part of a service of remembrance at St. Anne’s Church in downtown Annapolis.  Then, at 7 p.m. at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, the group will again perform the “Requiem” along with Mozart’s “Ave Verum,” and the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra will perform Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings,” a moving piece strongly associated with the events of 9/11.

The service and the concert are free and all are invited.  Says Mr. Green, “We performed this Requiem nine years ago on the first anniversary of 9/11 and it was the most difficult and emotional performance I’ve ever conducted.  I feel exactly the same way today.  I am honored that we can offer these performances to the community as a way for everyone to come together and remember those we lost that day.”

Additional information about the concerts is at www.liveartsmaryland.org.
