2 Bicyclists Hurt In Separate Hit-And-Run Crashes In Anne Arundel. A pair of unrelated crashes in Anne Arundel Countysent two bicyclists to Shock Trauma.In Glen Burnie, Marco A. Garcia, 41, was hit by a truck on Crain Highway near Georgia Avenue just after 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Police said Garcia was riding his bicycle legally in the northbound lanes when he was struck by possibly a gray Chevrolet or Saturn sedan.The driver, who police said sped off, was described vaguely as a white man with a beard, who was last seen wearing wire-rimmed glasses and a baseball cap.

Streetlights Installed To Abate Linthicum Crime Concerns. New and enhanced streetlights have been installed near the Linthicum light rail station as part of an effort to boost safety and security at the station and the surrounding neighborhood. Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold activated the lights at the station Thursday after crews installed two new poles and fixtures along Shipley Road, where residents have reported a crime problem emanating from the nearby light rail stop.Some residents in Linthicum want to shut down the light rail stop, citing growing crime concerns. They claim the North Linthicum stop is safer, citing better lighting and more parking.

Lawmaker Eyes School Bus, Fire Safety.  Fire proofing school buses is now the law in Maryland — but how soon will the state start putting those requirements in writing?WBAL-TV 11 News Education Alert reporter Tim Tooten said Maryland may be the only state in the nation with a fire safety law on the books for school buses. The legislation was signed recently by Gov. Martin O’Malley. The bill’s sponsor is on the road this summer explaining why it is so important for children.Tooten said the fire safety bill didn’t get a lot of publicity but passed the General Assembly without 100 percent support from lawmakers. But even supporters admit, it may take some time to see what’s on paper make its way to local school districts.

Security Guards Shot In NE Baltimore.  Two security guards shot Thursday night in northeast Baltimore were hospitalized in serious condition, police said.Police continued Friday morning to look for suspects. Baltimore City police officers were called just before 9:30 p.m. to the 2800 block of Mathews Street, where two armed security guards were making rounds at the Oak Hill Townhouses.Police said the guards encountered a group of people when a scuffle ensued. WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Jennifer Franciotti said a 32-year-old female security officer was shot in the eye and a 38-year-old male security officer was shot in the chest.
