Homestead Gardens’ Founder, Don Riddle, Found Dead On Boat

UPDATE 10:42 am 07/01/2011: Homestead Gardens just released the following statement:

It is with profound sadness that the Homestead Gardens family marks the passing of Don Riddle, Jr. Mere words cannot begin to express the sense of loss felt by those who have considered Don a friend, mentor, co-worker, and community leader. Don was many things to many people and irreplaceable on every level. His passion and commitment to family, the gardening industry, and the community was strikingly evident on a daily basis. We appreciate the outpouring of support from the community he so dearly loved, and ask that you keep his family in your prayers.

UPDATE: 09:33 am 07/01/2011: From the Anne Arundel County Police, there were no outward signs of trauma and are awaiting a cause of death from the medical examiner’s office. The Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch has an article featuring the many accolades and achievements of Mr. Riddle.

Donald Riddle, Jr. , founder of Homestead Gardens and local businessman died yesterday afternoon on his boat.  Mr. Riddle was 63 years old and is survived by his mother, brother, wife, daughter, and son.

Mr. Riddle was discovered on his boat,yesterday afternoon; the boat was tied up to his pier in the Annapolis Roads community. According to Division Chief Michael E. Cox of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, the call came in about 4:30pm for a “sick person or possible suicide” on the boat. Upon arrival, medical personnel determined that Mr. Riddle has passed away and turned the investigation over to the police department.
