Preliminary investigation suggests that the operator of a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling southbound on Governor Ritchie Highway approaching Earleigh Heights Road. At that time, two pedestrians were attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Governor Ritchie Highway just south of Earleigh Heights Road when the Chevrolet struck them both. Both pedestrians were not utilizing the cross walk at the time of the crash and were wearing dark clothing.

As a result of the collision, both victims were both flown via Maryland State Police Helicopter to University of Maryland Shock Trauma. Preliminarily, speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash on the part of the driver. The investigation is ongoing.
