The long standing local racing tradition will be a few weeks earlier this year.  Instead of August, this year the 21st Annual Thunder on the Bay Racing Event will be held on June 25th and 26th 2011.

Some highlights to look forward to include;

• Running of the J-stock Hydros (Jr. Stock Class) for kids in morning
• Vintage boats, including vintage GP’s will be flying around the race course
• Skiff Dash-for-Cash (or as we call it – a free-for-all)
• Alton Pierson Memorial Race for the 5 Litre’s
• Special race for 2.5 L Modified Class
• Paul Sohn Memorial Race for the Skiffs.
• Paul Reed Smith Guitar Raffle – It is on display at Baker’s Liquor Store (1500 Postal Road Chester, MD 21619). Tickets can be purchased in advance. They are $5 ea and there will be a maximum of 300 sold. You need not be present to win.

10 Classes of boats will be racing on both days of the events.  Classes include; 1 Liter Modified,  1-1/2 Stock, 2-1/2 Stock, 2-1/2 Modified, 5 Liter; National Modified, Jersey Speed Skiff, Pro Stock, J-Stock Hydro, and Vintage.

Each year the Kent Narrows Racing Association makes a donation to a local charity from the proceeds of the weekend’s event. Chesterwye Foundation was chosen this year. According to their website www.chesterwye.com, Chesterwye was founded in 1967 by a group of concerned citizens interested in aiding and providing services to children with Developmental Disabilities. Later, as the children grew older and as services were needed in the county, the focus of support was directed towards adults with Developmental Disabilities. Currently, Chesterwye provides a variety of services for over 70 adults with Developmental Disabilities.

Gates Open at 10:00AM both days.  Adults are $7.00 and kids under 12 are free.  There will be plenty of food available for purchase including roast beef sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, fried clams and much more.
As usual there will be plenty of boats and vendors on site.

Off-site parking is available under both sides of the Kent Narrows Route 50 Bridge.  Shuttle Bus Service will be available to take patrons to the yacht club.  You will not be able to park on yacht club grounds.  Please NO COOLERS.
