Still Time To Enroll Your Child For Summer Fun At AACC

| June 11, 2011, 02:23 PM | 1 Comment

Summer is almost here, but it’s not too late to sign up your child for some of Anne Arundel Community College’s summer Kids in College camps and classes, including 27 new offerings for ages 4-18.

Registration is under way for half-day classes, daylong classes and weeklong camps that begin the week of June 13 and continue through the week of Aug. 8.

Kindergarteners can create their own circus characters based on Dr. Seuss’ “If I Ran the Circus” in “Circus McGurkus – A Dr. Seuss Circus” (KDS 853) or explore other Dr. Seuss tales with “Seuss on the Loose” (KDS 851). First through third-graders will travel through time and around the world in “Amazing Adventures with Magic Tree House” (KDS 847), based on Mary Pope Osborne’s Magic Tree House book series. Youths in grades seven through 11 who are fans of the Stephenie Meyer Twilight series can explore “Twilight: Novel Beginnings” (KDS 883).

Budding chefs in grades six through nine can sign up for culinary camps to learn secrets of pasta and sauces, pizza dough and topics, pastry baking or breakfast favorites such as waffles and pancakes. Older students in grades nine through 12 who have completed an AACC cooking camp can sign up for “Master Chef’s Challenge” (YUT 855).

As usual, AACC also offers daylong, weeklong sports camps. Perennial favorite “Sports Jamboree” is back, with campers broken down into grade groups of grades two to four and then grades five to seven to play soccer, lacrosse, kickball and capture the flag. The college also offers camps in specific sports, including baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, golf and tennis.

Also, the college has plenty of camps where future entrepreneurs, artists, engineers, actors, scientists, computer technicians and graphics and video game creators to learn their crafts. Four of the video game camps are brand new this year. And all of the camps for 3-to-4-year-olds also are offered for the first time. AACC also has some new prep classes, including “Lego® Math” (YEP 820) where children in grades four through six work in teams to solve engineering challenges, “Preparing for College English” (YEP 801) and “How to Survive High School English” (KDS 899), both for grades seven through 11.
