Davidsonville Man Killed In Glen Burnie Crash

A Davidsonville man was killed yesterday while crossing Baltimore & Annapolis Boulevard in front of the Cromwell Light Rail Station. This is an area that seems to be prone to pedestrian versus vehicle accidents.  From the Anne Arundel County Police Department:

On June 7, 2011 at approximately 1423 hours, officers from the Northern District responded for a report of a pedestrian struck at 7390 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd Glen Burnie, Maryland (Anne Arundel County) in front of the Cromwell Light Rail Station. Officers arrived on scene and found a pedestrian lying in the roadway with life threatening injuries.

The initial investigation revealed the pedestrian identified as, Douglas Frank Pohlman was crossing Baltimore Annapolis Blvd and was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. Mr. Pohlman was not in a designated crosswalk; however he crossed the roadway between two designated crosswalks that are marked with operating pedestrian signals. Mr. Pohlman was transported by ambulance to the University of Maryland Hospital Shock Trauma Unit where he later died from his injuries.

Speed is not a factor and it appears the vehicle was traveling under the posted speed limit. Alcohol may have been a factor on the part of the pedestrian. Pedestrian error was listed as the primary cause of this crash. The investigation is continuing.
