Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management
The AA County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) coordinates resources and facilitates the response and recovery efforts of local, state, federal and private agencies in emergencies.
- 8:00 AM–12 Noon, Friday, June 17, 2011, Emergency Shelter Exercise: The Office of Emergency Management in conjunction with the Anne Arundel Departments of Social Services, Health, and Animal Control will be conducting a shelter exercise at Arundel High School in Gambrills, MD. We need 50-100 volunteers to participate. Everyone is welcome and I would like to have a variety of ages and anyone that speaks another language. There will be roles for some to play. Arnold Volunteer Fire Department
The Arnold Volunteer Fire Department is always recruiting volunteer members, age 16 and up, to serve both as firefighters and to assist with administrative tasks. Current needs include firefighter/EMT, building maintenance, public outreach and fire safety education, fundraising, event planning, and administrative assistance. All firefighting training and equipment is provided free of charge. Davidsonville Wildlife Sanctuary
This nonprofit organization helps injured and orphaned animals by treating them, raising and caring for them, and releasing them back into the wild. If release is not an option they are provided permanent homes at the sanctuary or elsewhere. Volunteers, age 18 and up, who can commit to at least one morning per week are needed for ongoing animal care including feeding, watering, cleaning for a wide variety animals. Isabel’s Gift
Volunteers are needed to help support the needs of parents with children in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) at the AA Medical Center in Annapolis and the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Support consists of providing information packets and web site information, a listening ear, and comfort bags of useful items such as water, pen & paper, reading materials, personal items, etc. to help parents cope with the stressful NICU experience. Volunteers are needed to stuff and deliver comfort bags, help with fundraising, and a host of other tasks. Monetary and in-kind donations are also needed to support the web site, printing, and purchase of items for comfort bags. Jam for the Animals, Sat. June 18, 2011
Animal Rescue Fund, Inc. of Maryland needs volunteers to help with parking throughout the day for this fundraising concert being held at the AA County Fairgrounds on Sat., Jun. 18, 2011. This benefit concert will feature of 15 bands, food vendors, arts and craft vendors, beneficiaries, and activities for children to raise funds for local animal shelters and rescue organizations. Girl Scouts of Central Maryland P.A.V.E. Summer Camp- “Buddies not Bullies” June 20–24
Adult volunteers are needed to assist with activities at the P.A.V.E. (Project Anti-Violence Education) Summer Camp for youth ages 7 to 12 years, June 20 – 24 from 8 am to 4 pm at Camp Woodlands in Annapolis. The P.A.V.E. program helps girls and boys avoid the pitfalls of peer pressure by empowering them to prevent violence in their lives, schools and communities. Adult volunteers support P.A.V.E.’s teen peer counselors for the week of camp, which will include arts & crafts, presentations by guest speakers, sports and games all centered on the theme “Buddies not Bullies.” In particular we need a lifeguard and a canoeing and kayaking instructor. All other duties needed for the children will be assigned when the volunteers come to camp. Volunteers can choose mornings or afternoons. Kids ‘N Kaboodle Children’s Fair, June 5, 2011
Help create a day of joyful laughter and creative play for all the children of Annapolis. Chesapeake Children’s Museum, the Early Childhood Coalition of AA Co., the Kids at Hope steering committee, and many community partners are hosting the ninth annual Kids ‘n’ Kaboodle, from 12 noon–4 pm, Sun., June 5, 2011 at the Weems-Whalen Memorial Athletic Fields on Spa Road (behind Maryland Hall). Volunteers are needed for: set up, beginning at 9 am, facilitating crafts and games, grill and other food service duty, info and first aid, parking directors, sharing careers with hands-on activities, and clean up until 5:30 pm. U.S. Conference of Mayors, Jun. 16–21, 2011
Be the first to say “hello” as mayors from around the country land at BWI. ZOOMA Annapolis Half Marathon & 10K, Sun., Jun. 5, 2011
