Suicide Attempt In Pasadena Resolved

On May 10, 2011, at approximately 2:22 a.m., officers from the Eastern District responded to the 8300 block of Hilda Avenue in Pasadena for a report of a suicidal person.

Officers initially received information relayed from an adult female that her 53-year-old husband, who was apparently under the influence of alcohol and possibly narcotics, had become despondent and agitated. As she tried talking with him, his level of agitation increased to the point that he retrieved a loaded handgun and threatened to kill himself.  She was able to get that weapon from him and subsequently fled the home and called police for assistance.

Patrol officers attempted to make contact with the male subject when they arrived at the home. Officers attempted knocking on the door and calling the home several times, but could not establish contact with him. Based on the information obtained that a firearm was being used in the initial threat to kill himself and that there may be other weapons in the house, the decision was made to not make entry into the residence.

Members of the Special Operations Division (SOD) were called in to take over the scene.  After several hours, they were able to establish contact and the male subject exited the residence without incident around 6:30 a.m. He was subsequently taken to a local medical facility to receive treatment. No charges were placed. Eastern District officers also recovered a total of three weapons. It is important to note that residents were notified via phone message of the incident and were requested to stay in their homes while it was ongoing. Additionally, they were updated later in the morning once a peaceful resolution was reached.
