Cordish Pushes Back Arundel Mills Slots Project. A developer is scrapping his plans to begin casino operations at Arundel Mills mall by the end of the year. Baltimore-based Cordish Cos. is now planning to open its casino in stages, beginning next June with 2,750 machines.Cordish said he plans to have the entire 4,750-machine project finished by October of 2012. The decision to push back the plan into next year is expected to cost the state an estimated $70 million in revenue that was expected go toward education.

Illegal Net In Chesapeake Had 3 Tons Of Rockfish. Authorities said an illegal rockfish net found off Tilghman Island had more than three tons of fish.Maryland Natural Resources Police said an 80-foot work boat outfitted with a crane worked for several hours to gather the nearly mile-long net on Tuesday.The net was found Sunday by recreational fishermen near a buoy midway between Tilghman Island and North Beach.The seizure is the latest in a series in the bay this year. The commercial rockfish gill net season was shut down Feb. 4 after 10 tons of rockfish were confiscated from illegal nets.

Sean Bergenheim scored two goals and Dwayne Roloson stopped 33 shots as the surging Tampa Bay Lightning completed a series sweep of the top-seeded Washington Capitals with a 5-3 victory in Game 4 on Wednesday night.Playing on consecutive nights for the first time this postseason, the Lightning extended their winning streak to seven games and advanced to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since their 2004 Stanley Cup championship season.For Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals it was yet another bitter postseason disappointment.

Officials: MD Casinos Brought In $13M In 30 Days. Maryland’s two slots palaces have brought in $13 million to the state coffers in the last 30 days.State lottery officials reported that the Hollywood Casino in Perryville was the big winner, taking in $10 million — its second biggest month since its opening in September.The casino at Ocean Downs brought in $3 million, its most successful month to date, lottery officials said.The two casinos have generated a total of $77.1 million in revenue since September.
