Baltimore’s Hampden Neighborhood

Photographer and educator Denny Lynch will present a slide-lecture on Hampden, a unique Northwest Baltimore neighborhood where he grew up and still lives with his wife. The free program about Hampden’s landmarks, architecture, history, culture and colorful characters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie.

Mr. Lynch has images of people and places in Hampden since the early part of the 20th century. He also has more recent photographs of the old mills along the Jones Fall, schools, churches, the stores on 36th Street (“The Avenue”), the Hampden Festival, HONfest, the mayor’s Christmas Parade, and the Celebration of Christmas Lights.

AT:LAST Outreach Program

A representative from AT:LAST, Inc. Outreach Program will speak at 10 a.m. Monday, June 13, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie. A Maryland Assistive Technology Program, AT:LAST endeavors to break down barriers that prevent individuals with disabilities from acquiring and effectively using assistive technologies to gain greater independence. Pulmonary Presentation

A program, “Breathing Easier While on the Go,” will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie. A respiratory therapist from Roberts Home Medical will bring different size oxygen tanks and the system to fill the tanks to demonstrate how they work to provide more freedom for pulmonary patients. They will show oxygen cylinder cart carriers and be available to answer questions. For information, call 410-222-6680.

Great British Cooking

Chefs on the Go Sue Latini and Rosalie Falter will present a demonstration on Great British Cooking at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie. On the menu will be Queen Victoria’s Soup, Collops with Mushrooms and Onions, and Sister Agatha’s Rhubard Crumble.

The cooking demonstration will explore English cuisine, history and traditions. Attendees will be able to sample menu items. The cost is $3 at registration to cover food supplies. Space is limited. Call 410-222-6680 for information.

Personal Safety

Do you want to learn how to protect yourself? Attend the free “Personal Safety Strategies” program at 10 a.m. Monday, June 27, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie. A representative from Maryland Safe Defense will provide safety tips and describe non-lethal products that may be used to thwart a personal attack. Call 410-222-6680 for information.

55 Alive Driver Safety Program

The Pascal Senior Activity Center will host an AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety Program from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie. The one-day course is designed to help older drives to improve their driving and teach accident prevention skills. Upon completion, students receive certificates. Some insurance companies honor course completion with a reduction in insurance rates.

Registration is required. The fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-AARP members. Checks or money orders payable to AARP are acceptable. Make reservations at the senior center desk.
