Harrisburg Uses Homers To Top Baysox

The Baysox out-hit the Senators, but two solo home runs by Harrisburg proved to be the difference in a rain-shortened game Friday night. After two rain delays that totaled one hour and 21 minutes the game was called after six innings with the Senators leading 2-0. The loss drops the Baysox back to .500 at 24-24.

Left-handed starting pitcher Rick Zagone pitched five and one-third innings and allowed just three hits, but two of them were solo home runs that were the only runs scored in the game.

Harrisburg started Tanner Roark pitched just two innings before the first rain delay in the middle of the second inning that caused him to be removed from the game and replaced by Erik Arnesen, who pitched three and two-thirds innings and earned the win.

The Senators’ first run came in the bottom of the second inning when Tyler Moore homered on a fly ball to left-center field. Harrisburg’s second run came in the next inning when Josh Johnson homered on a fly ball to left field with two outs to put the Senators up 2-0.

Center fielder Xavier Avery extended his team-leading hit streak to 10 games with two hits in three at bats Friday night. Avery hit a lead off single to open the game and has now gotten on base to begin five consecutive games.

The Baysox recorded five hits in six innings, but had multiple hits in the same inning only one time and were not able to convert their runs into any hits. The Senators recorded just three hits, but two of them were solo home runs. The Baysox are on a seven-game home run drought that dates back to May 20 when second baseman Greg Miclat hit a solo home run.

Saturday, RHP Zach Clark (5-2, 3.40) will take the mound for the Baysox as they take on the Senators in a game starting at 7:00 p.m. His opponent will be RHP Shairon Martis (1-2, 4.30).
