Chinese Delegation To Visit Key School

More than 60 professionals from China’s Beijing University will visit The Key School on May 25 as part of a program led by the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy.

The University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy hosts groups from Beijing University’s National School of Development each year. During the annual visits, Chinese visitors participate in lectures, seminars and training sessions in partnership with U.S. companies and government agencies as they examine public leadership opportunities. This year’s group is interested in learning about the independent school system in the United States and considering ways in which to model institutions in China on their findings.

Jiehong Lou, program coordinator for the China Executive Master of Public Management Program at the University of Maryland, contacted The Key School in April asking if the School would be willing to welcome the visitors to the Hillsmere campus and to provide them with insight regarding Key School’s distinctive program. Head of School Marcella Yedid and her administrative team were happy to support the international exchange.

“We are pleased to host this delegation of Chinese professionals from Beijing University as they pursue their interest in the American system of education,” Yedid said. “Committed to fostering a global perspective in this era of highly interconnected societies, we at The Key School see this visit as an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, of reciprocal benefit, about educational practices in pre-collegiate education.”

The group from China will tour all four divisions of Key School, grades Pre-Kindergarten through twelve, and view classes in session. They will then gather for a plenary session with Key students, the School’s director of finance and operations, divisional heads, and the Head of School to discuss Key’s academic program and operational practices.
