The following information was just released by the Anne Arundel County Police Department.  Expect delays in the area.

The original story along with their press release and reasons for the protest can be found here.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department announces the planned road closure of Disney Road, between Route 175 and Citadel Drive in Severn, for the morning rush hour of April 14, 2011. The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church has expressed their intention to demonstrate at the intersection of Route 175 and Disney Road that morning.

The closure is likely to affect area traffic during the morning rush. Travelers should plan alternate routes. Additionally, Route 175, between Ridge Road and Reece Road, could also experience intermittent closures as necessary for safety.

Over the past week, the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the Fort Meade – Department of Defense Police have collaborated on an action plan to provide for the safety of the community, students, faculty, protestors and counter-protestors. Officers will be present to safeguard personal rights, to minimize disruptions and to provide vehicle and pedestrian direction as necessary.

Demonstrators will not be allowed on Fort Meade or Anne Arundel County Public School property. The majority of Westboro’s past demonstrations have been peaceful and lawful, but precautions, such as the road closure, are being taken to provide a higher degree of safety for those involved.

We must allow people to share their opinions, no matter how asinine, by law. But do we really have to waste public resources and complicate the morning rush hour to accomodate them? It should be that if you want to be a jerk on the side of the road you may do so on your own dime, even if it means absorbing an occasional rotten tomato.

If the police would just stay away Westboro wouldn’t protest anymore. Basically they are a bunch of cowards relying on police protection as if they went out on their own the protest would last less than 30 seconds. Hopefully all the police get called away for something worthwhile and leave these idiots to fend for themselves.

They are a hate group masquerading as a church and they probably receive non-profit status via the IRS and perhaps they should be investigated asap for misuse of funds.
