Traffic Advisories Issued For Birds’ Home Opener. City traffic officials have announced the traffic and parking changes that will be in effect Monday as the Baltimore Orioles play their home opener.The game is set for 3:05 p.m., and the team is encouraging fans to be in their seats by 2:30 p.m. for pregame ceremonies.Fans who do not have a parking permit for any of the stadium lots are encouraged to use public transportation. Since the season opener is being held on a weekday afternoon, area garages will be full with monthly permit holders, and downtown parking will be limited.
Baltimore Police Arrest Howard County Officer. Baltimore City police have confirmed that a Howard County police officer has been arrested after he allegedly punched a female officer outside a bar in a popular Baltimore nightlife district.Officer Casey Lechter, 23, was arrested at about 2 a.m. Sunday in the 2900 block of O’Donnell Street and charged with assault on police, failure to obey a lawful order and resisting arrest.Lechter is a probationary officer who had been on the force since last August. He was suspended pending an investigation.According to charging documents, Lechter punched the female officer in the head as she was handcuffing another man, Kary Williams, 35. The documents indicated Lechter identified himself as a police officer but continued to resist arrest.
2 Hit By CSX Trains; 1 Killed. One person was killed and another seriously injured when they were struck by CSX trains in Baltimore City and Baltimore County on Sunday.City fire officials said a person who was struck by a train near M&T Bank Stadium at about 3:15 a.m. was taken to Shock Trauma. Officials did not release the name or condition of the victim.About 25 minutes later, a CSX conductor alerted Baltimore County police that his train may have struck someone. Police found a body between Jones Road in Baltimore County and Joppa Farm Road, which is in Harford County.
Aides: Schaefer Doing ‘Well’. Former Maryland Gov. William Donald Schaefer remains at an area hospital where he is being treated for pneumonia. On Sunday, aides close to the former governor told 11 News that he was feeling much better.A former aide and confident of Schaefer said he was improving and more feisty than ever.Schaefer, 89, was admitted to St. Agnes Hospital on Thursday. “”He wasn’t feeling well, and they made the decision it was better for him to go to the hospital,” Lebow-Sachs said. “(The doctors) gave him medication and took good care of him.
