25 Superfresh Stores Could Be Up For Sale. Dozens of supermarkets in Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C., could soon be for sale.The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc. announced Wednesday its intention to sell 25 Superfresh stores as part of an overall turnaround strategy.According to a statement, 25 Superfresh locations were identified as “outside the company’s core market” and will be put up for sale under a proposed bidding process. The 25 locations — which were not individually identified — include 22 in Maryland, two in Delaware and one in the District of Columbia.
Customers At Odds With BGE Over Deposits. Some Baltimore Gas & Electric customers have been told they have to make a security deposit, but they don’t know why, the WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team has learned.Harriet Sellman said she recently received a letter from BGE that made her angry and sick, saying she isn’t sure how she is going to pay the extra money the company is asking for in the form of a security deposit.”They decided we needed to pay a $532 security deposit which they estimate is two months of our estimated service costs,” Sellman said. “I have been late. We’re trying very hard to make do on one paycheck right now.”
Man Charged In Fatal Brooklyn Stabbing. Baltimore police arrested a man Wednesday in connection with a stabbing in the city’s Brooklyn neighborhood over the weekend.Homicide detectives arrested Eric Philip, 22, was charged with murder and robbery after a stabbing in the 3800 block of South Hanover Street, police said.Detectives said they believe Phillip approached Antonio Miranda and tried to rob him. Ultimately, Miranda was struck with a blunt object before he was stabbed multiple times, police said.
Endangered Baby Sifaka Born At Maryland Zoo. The Maryland Zoo is inviting residents to see its newest arrival — a male Coquerel’s sifaka that was born on Feb. 15.”This is a highly significant birth for the sifaka population in North America,” said Mike McClure, the zoo’s general curator. “There are only eight accredited zoos that house the 50 Coquerel’s sifaka in the U.S., and this tiny baby represents 2 percent of the total captive population in the country.”His birth weight was 100 grams, which falls in the average birth weight.
