More Than 100 Volunteers To Help Save The Bay On Comcast Cares Day

On Saturday, April 30, 2011, more than 100 local Comcast employees, their families and other community volunteers will help to control stormwater runoff that eventually finds its way into the the Chesapeake Bay.

As part of Comcast’s tenth “Comcast Cares Day”, volunteers will learn how to control stormwater runoff, weed and plant garden areas, clean up underbrush, trash and other debris from 9 am until noon on April 30th at Lake Waterford Park in Pasadena, MD.

At the same time across the country, more than 62,000 Comcast volunteers will participate in this annual day of service, which is one of the largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts in the nation. Since its inception in 2001, Comcast Cares Day volunteers have dedicated more than 2 million hours of service. Comcast Cares Day is one way that Comcast helps to power dreams and demonstrate a year-round commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves.

“By utilizing the Department of Recreation and Parks as a program base for environmental projects, we have the ability to bring youth and community volunteers of all abilities together from many diverse communities,” said Rick Anthony, Director of Anne Arundel Recreation and Parks. “This is an example of strong partnership, great planning and community engagement.”

“Hands-on projects like this improve the quality of our parks and our waterways and give our Comcast employees and their friends and families an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their own community,” said Chris Comer, Director of Government Affairs of the Comcast – Bay Shores Group.

The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.
