On April 27, 2011 at about 3:45 a.m. officers responded to the 100-block of Oak Springs Drive in Glen Burnie for a disorderly conduct report.  Officers responded to the area, but found no one.

At approximately 5:10 a.m. officers were called to a nearby residence for a report of a shots fired into a home in the 7800-block of Cheverly Lane.  Officers identified a residence in the 100-block of Oak Springs as the possible source of the shot.  When approaching the Oak Springs residence, a 17-year veteran of the force came under gun fire from the front of the house.  The officer returned fire and took cover.  Officers then surrounded the residence and summonsed the Special Operations Section and Crisis Negotiations Unit.

Negotiators made contact with a male subject at the residence and were able to talk him into to surrendering at approximately 7:45 a.m.  When taken into custody, the subject was wearing body armor.

The two calls appear related, but isolated to the subject in custody.  The residence struck by the initial shot was occupied and located to the rear of the Oak Springs residence.  It was struck multiple times.

No one was injured during the incident and it remains under investigation.

A man fired shots at a police officer around 5 a.m. Wednesday from a home in Glen Burnie as officers responded to the residence for earlier reports of a gunshot, Anne Arundel police said.

The officer, a 17-year-veteran of the force, returned fire and took cover as officers from the Special Operations Section and Crisis Negotiations Unit surrounded the home, in the 100 block of Oak Spring Drive, just off Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. Negotiators convinced a man inside the home to surrender at around 7:45 a.m.

The man was wearing body armor when he was taken into custody, police said, and no one was injured during the incident.

Police believe the man may have fired multiple shots at a home located behind the one on Oak Spring Drive, which prompted the initial call to police.
