FILMSTERS Academy Film Camp Celebrates 10th Anniversary

FILMSTERS Academy Film Camp will be celebrating its’ 10th anniversary this summer. Since its inception, FILMSTERS has taught over 400 students the magic of filmmaking and has hosted industry guest instructors from New York, Los Angeles and abroad. Many graduates have gone on to the best film schools in the country.

FILMSTERS Academy offers a comprehensive, experiential “hands-on” approach to teaching teens the process and art of filmmaking. The film camp was created and taught by award-winning filmmakers Patti Obrow White and Lee Anderson, both of Annapolis. The duo has been operating FILMSTERS Academy in Annapolis since its inception. During camp, the students conceive, pitch, write, direct, shoot, produce and edit their own films using the latest in digital technology. At the end of the week, the final films are celebrated at FILMSTERS annual film festival, which is open to the public.

“There’s a real place for this in the community,” says White, who’s won multiple awards for her film and television work including three national Emmy “There are theater camps and acting camps, but no film camps. We are doing this because we really want to give back to kids in this community.”

“We have an 85% return rate at film camp,” said Anderson. “We are with them as they grow creatively each year. So not only are we growing young filmmakers and seeing them get into some of the top film schools in the country, FILMSTERS Academy has also become a professional network for the young professionals who teach each summer and then move on to New York of LA. Everyone ends up helping everyone and that is just great. It is a legacy that keeps on growing. It’s a culture and a family and it’s very exciting.”

“If you ask us what we are the most proud of in creating this program, it would be the fact that we’ve managed to create a 100% non-competitive, creative learning environment that is just plain fun,” says White. Anderson added, “The audience is always amazed at what these kids can do.”

FILMSTERS Academy in Annapolis will be held at the Key School from August 1st – August 12th.
