Bagpipes At O’Malley

The public can join the members of the O’Malley Senior Activity Center on St. Patrick’s Day for a morning filled with Celtic sounds and green goodies. Tim Carey, professional bagpiper, will play a 1958 set of Henderson bagpipes and a new set of Colin Kyo bagpipes by Murray Huggins at 10:30 a.m. March 17 at the center, 1275 Odenton Road, Odenton.

Mr. Carey first learned to play the great Highland bagpipe when he was age 6. After competing on the professional circuit, he decided to focus in grade-one pipe bands. His exposure to playing with the famed City of Toronto Pipe Band led him back to the United States to play with the Denny and Dunipace Pipe Band. He currently plays with the City of Washington Pipe Band.

He has performed at the Kennedy Center, Madison Square Garden, Smithsonian Institution, various weddings in the Washington, D.C., and Virginia area, and funerals at Arlington National Cemetery.

For more information on the performance, call the senior center at 410-222-6227. The O’Malley Senior Activity Center is one of seven centers operated by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities and is accessible to anyone with disabilities. For information, call 410-222-4464 or see www.aacounty.org/aging.
