UPDATE: Crofton Peeper Draws More Charges

On January 6, 2010, we published a story about Charles Dean Novak, 35, of 1679 Fallowfield Court in Crofton who was arrested on a burglary charge. Police indicated that additional charges might be filed.   Novak was initially released on house arrest, but was re-arrested and is being held without bond at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.

From the police report:

After examining property recovered during the search warrant service at Charles Novak’s residence Western District Detectives discovered evidence indicating he had burglarized two more homes in the Crofton area. Also discovered were multiple videos of a young female nude or partially nude who was filmed through the window of one of the aforementioned homes.  Detectives identified an address in the 1800 Block of Judicial Way in the Crofton area where the female resided.  After making contact with the family Detectives discovered the female resident was a juvenile.  The family was shown video and they were able to identify video of a dresser that was taken inside of the female juvenile’s bedroom as well as underwear that was being manipulated by the suspect in the video.  At the time of Mr. Novak’s arrest a plastic bag containing women’s underwear was recovered from his home.  The plastic bag was marked with

the first name of the victim.  The juvenile was shown the undergarments and positively identified them as her property.   Through interviews with the family it was determined Charles Novak had been inside their residence without their permission sometime during the month of February, 2008.

Through investigation detectives were able to identify another victim who resides in the 1800 Block of Crofton Parkway.  The female resident identified herself in two videos nude or partially nude.  The videos were filmed through a window of the residence located in an enclosed sunroom.  To gain access to the sunroom the suspect would have had make entry through a closed sliding glass door.  The victim advised she never gave the suspect permission to enter her property or film her. It was determined these two incident occurred on September 22nd and 29th 2010.

Detectives presented Applications for a Statement of Charges to the District Court Commissioner.  After the Commissioner reviewed the documents arrest warrants were issued charging the suspect with twenty-one (21) counts of Burglary, Theft, Peeping Tom, and Private Place – Prurient Intent.  Prior to this update, Novak had been on house arrest for the previous charges. For service of the new charges, detectives located and arrested Charles Novak at his residence, without incident. As of this release, Novak is being held without bond at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center. This investigation is continuing.
