Kidnapping/Carjacking In Linthicum

On February 17, 2011, at approximately 9:46 p.m., Northern District officers responded to the 1100 block of Winterson Road in the Linthicum for a report of a car jacking/kidnapping in progress. Responding officers located the vehicle, apprehended the suspect, and recovered the victims without incident.

The investigation revealed that the unknown, armed suspect approached the victims, a 43-year-old female and a 44-year-old male from Richmond, near a restaurant in the area of West Nursery Road and Winterson Road and forced them into their vehicle. Once inside the vehicle, the suspect demanded money from one victim. The victims stated they had no money with them, but indicated that some money was available in their nearby hotel room. The victims were forced to drive to their hotel and told to retrieve money from their room. Once at the hotel, the male victim was instructed to go inside and return with money and the female victim remained in the vehicle with the armed suspect. Once inside the hotel, the male victim called police, who arrived on scene at the hotel.

At that point, the suspect forced the female victim to drive away, but officers were ultimately able to bring the vehicle to a stop on Nursery Road near Interstate 295, where the suspect was immediately taken into custody. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division responded to assist with the investigation. Please note that the suspect’s booking photo is not being released at this time.

Suspect: Reginald Charles Callaway, 23, of 110 Range Road, Glen Burnie Md. The suspect is being held on two open warrants. Additionally, the suspect is being charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery, Kidnapping, Handgun on Person, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Carjacking, Armed Carjacking, Theft Under $1,000 and Illegal Possession of a Handgun.

Dogfighting In Severn

On February 17, 2011, at approximately 5:22 p.m., officers from the Western District responded to a report of two dogs fighting in the wooded area near Athena Lane and Loving Road in Severn.

A citizen reported that approximately five suspects were watching the fight. As officers arrived in the area, the suspects were observed running through the wooded area towards Arwell Court and a perimeter was established. Two male juvenile suspects were captured running out of the wooded area on Arwell Court. One of the suspects was carrying a small Pit bull dog by the neck while he was running from the wooded area.

Anne Arundel County Animal Control officers retrieved the animal and transported it to a local veterinary hospital for treatment. The dog was evaluated and was deemed to be in poor condition. The second dog was spotted by the officers and took off running into the wooded area.   The officers canvassed the area for the second dog and the additional suspects, but were unable to locate them. The suspects were arrested and charged with numerous animal cruelty violations.  The Department of Juvenile Services placed the juveniles in custody at the Cheltenham Youth Facility. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

“This is another fine example of an alert citizen intervening and removing animals from a dangerous situation,” County Executive John R. Leopold said. “Concerned residents are the first line of defense against animal cruelty.”
