ASGT Announces Auditions For The 2011 Performance Season

| February 11, 2011, 05:17 PM | 0 Comments

The Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre has announced auditions for their 2011 performance season.  All auditions take place at West Annapolis Elementary School.

General and dance auditions for the season opener, “Chicago: The Musical”, will take place on Thursday, March 3rd at 7pm and Saturday, March 5th at noon.  Please bring a headshot (or recent photo) and resume stapled together back-to-back.  Dance callbacks will be held on the afternoon of March 5th.  Singing and reading callbacks will be held on Monday, March 7th and Tuesday, March 8th.  You must audition to be seen at callbacks.

Individuals must be at least 16 years of age by April 3, 2011 to audition for “Chicago: The Musical.”  Please prepare a brief cut of a contemporary musical theatre song (songs from the show are acceptable) as well as a contrasting song, and provide sheet music that is ready for the accompanist.  For the dance audition/callbacks, dress in clothes you can move well in and that show your body and lines.  For men, jazz shoes or sneakers are appropriate.  For women, dancing in heels is preferred (character shoes, dance shoes) and full make-up is recommended.  Ensemble dancers should be quick learners with training or knowledge of ballet and jazz. Any tricks or tumbling are a plus.  The director welcomes questions about auditions by e-mail at [email protected].

General auditions for “The Marvelous Wonderettes” will take place on Thursday, March 10th at 7pm and Saturday, March 12th at noon.  Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, March 15th at 7pm.  This high-energy, fast-paced ensemble piece requires four women who can play ages from the mid-20s to mid-30s. Please prepare a song that showcases your voice and strengths.  Songs from the show are acceptable.  Bring dance shoes and be prepared to learn a short dance combination.

General auditions for “Hairspray” will also be held on Thursday, March 10th at 7pm and Saturday, March 12th at noon.  Performers of all ethnicities are strongly encouraged to audition.  Callbacks will be held in the afternoon on Saturday, March 12th and on Tuesday, March 15th at 7pm.  If you are unable to attend the auditions, you may contact the director at [email protected].

Individuals must be at least 16 years of age by May 31, 2011 to audition for “Hairspray.”  No exceptions. Please come prepared to identify any conflicts you may have with rehearsals or performances. Rehearsals will generally be held two or three weeknights and a weekend afternoon each week.  Please prepare 16-32 bars of an up-tempo piece as well as a ballad from a contemporary musical (1970s to the present, no Sondheim).  You may be asked to sing only one piece.  Dress appropriately, and bring dance attire/shoes for the dance audition.  You may be kept for cold readings from the script.
