Annapolis Police Probe Several Home Burglaries.  Police in Annapolis are looking into a string of burglaries.Fifteen homes located in neighborhoods in the southern part of Annapolis have been broken into since mid-November, police said.The Annapolis Police Department’s chief said he believes most if not all of the break-ins are related.”We’re very confident that it’s the same person or persons that are responsible for all of this,” said Police Chief Michael Pristopp.Police said the break-ins are happening in subdivisions and townhome complexes off Forest Drive near Parole in a smash-and-grab fashion, usually through the front door.

O’Malley Sworn In For Second Term. Gov. Martin O’Malley said Maryland must focus on the job-creating potential of the state’s innovation economy to boost the economy.O’Malley focused on economic issues during his second inaugural speech on Wednesday in Annapolis. O’Malley, a Democrat, and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown were sworn in by Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Robert Bell in a brief ceremony in the Maryland Senate before another ceremony outside the Maryland Statehouse.The governor called for unity during a period of what he proclaimed to be profound economic change.”We cannot allow our individual sense of entitlement to tear apart our shared sense of community,” he said.

2 Babies Born On Side Of Road During Ice Storm. Two babies born with the help of their parents on the side of the road in the Baltimore area during Monday’s overnight ice storm are said to be doing OK. Matt Strasser said he helped deliver his second son on the side of Interstate 97 near Route 50 at about 5 a.m. Tuesday. He, his wife, Dayita, and their 18-month-old son couldn’t make it to the hospital either.”I’m talking to the guy, and (my wife) is like, ‘Catch him,’ and I put my hand out with the blanket. He landed on the blanket,” Strasser explained.The baby boy, who hasn’t yet been named, and his mother are doing well, Strasser said.

Firefighter Dies In 4 Alarm Parkville Fire. A Baltimore County volunteer firefighter battling a four-alarm fire in the Parkville area has died.Flames engulfed an entire apartment building at the Towson Crossing Apartments complex at 30 Dowling Circle at about 7 p.m. Wednesday. Fire Department spokeswoman Elise Armacost said at 7:20 p.m. that fire commanders had declared a mayday emergency involving the firefighter’s injuries. Initially, three people were injured, including a firefighter, who was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Baltimore County Fire Chief John J. Hohman identified the fallen firefighter as Mark Falkenhan, 43, a member of the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Co.
