Poetry Out Loud Competition

Students from all 12 county public high schools and one private school will showcase their work this week at Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ annual “Poetry Out Loud” contest, part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition.

Weather permitting, the event will begin at 7:00 p.m. on January 12 in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis. The competition is a partnership of AACPS, the Maryland State Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation. The winner of this competition will advance to the Maryland Poetry Out Loud contest. The state champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud National Finals, where $50,000 in scholarships and school prizes will be awarded.

The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
