White Christmas Snow Warning

While the area will see a dusting of snow today, it appears that this year’s Big Kahuna will roll in tomorrow. For those on twitter the hashtag for updates is #MerrySnowmas. According to Foot’s Forecast expect near blizzard conditions and upwards of a foot of snow by Monday morning.

PRELIMINARY SNOWFALL PROJECTIONS AS OF 10:50 AM 12-25-2010 Preliminary Snowfall For Maryland

Our Winter Stormcast Team has the following preliminary snowfall projections for the following states. These numbers may be altered as our multi-state teams continue to interpret the latest data. Our “Storm Grade Totals” will not be issued until 9 PM this evening, and may be released in stages depending on the state first affected.

South Carolina: 3-6″ in western areas, with locally higher amounts in southern Blue Ridge. Rain/snow mix along coastal areas, scattered accumulations of less than 1″.

North Carolina: 6 or more inches western areas, up to 6″ in Research Triangle and east.

Virginia: 6-12″ likely for much of the state. Higher accumulations possible, especially eastern shore peninsula and Chesapeake Bay region. Washington: Approx. 10″

Eastern Maryland: 8-16″ for Lower Eastern Shore, 8-12″ for Upper  Eastern Shore. Blizzard conditions likely for a 12-hour period or longer from Sunday night into Monday morning.

Central Maryland: 8-12″ with the potential for higher accumulations. Near blizzard condition possible late Sunday night.

Western Maryland: 4-8″ for potential for higher accumulations.
