Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center (AACRC)

The AACRC aids in non-violent resolution of personal and community conflict. It provides mediation, anger management training, prisoner counseling/training and other services to individuals and groups. Call 410-266-9033 or E-mail [email protected].  Web site: www.aacrc-md.us. The following is being announced:

  • 5:00–8:00 pm, Sun., Mar. 6, 2011, Fourth Annual Annapolis Idol Fundraiser: The AACRC is seeking volunteer entries from local artists who believe they have the personality and singing skills to be our Fourth Annapolis Idol at the event to be held at Michael’s in Glen Burnie. Finalists will be selected from auditions to be held at The Whiskey, 1803 West Street in Annapolis every Tuesday from 8-10 pm for five weeks starting January 11, 2011. Contestants are asked to register by 7:45 pm and to know what song they will sing. Auditions are free to enter. By the end of the evening, judges will have selected at least one finalist. Contestants must be at least 18 years of age by the event date and be able to perform a Top 40/mainstream pop song live to music they select and coordinate with our professional DJ. AA County Department of Aging & Disabilities RSVP Program

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) recruits volunteers ages 55+ to serve in various programs, including 19 Nutrition sites, as Telephone Reassurance volunteers, as VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers and as office assistants. RSVP volunteers also serve as tutors and mentors in County schools, as administrative support with the State and County police and in other locations. There is a particular need for weekday Telephone Reassurance volunteers who work in teams of two from 7-10 am from the Glen Burnie office.  For more information, contact: Kim Quillet at 410-222-6717 or [email protected].

Civil Air Patrol

The Annapolis Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol offers challenging opportunities for youths 12-18 years old, aerospace education enthusiasts and adults with an interest in search and rescue, homeland security, disaster relief and humanitarian missions. Leadership training, technical education and an opportunity to participate in aviation-related activities are just a few of the exciting benefits of CAP membership.  CAP Annapolis needs youth and adult volunteers to help us perform our air and ground missions. Family and Children’s Services of Central Maryland

Family & Children’s Services of Central Maryland is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian social services agency that provides specialized programs to troubled or vulnerable families and individuals so they can improve their quality of life. Foster parents are needed for the foster care program providing care for medically fragile (HIV+ or drug or alcohol affected) children while arranging permanent family placements. Community Mediation Maryland (CMM)

Community Mediation Maryland’s vision is for every Maryland citizen to have awareness of and access to an affordable, high quality community mediation service.  CMM is a nonprofit organization that advances community mediation in the state through educating the public, training, networking, research and creating new centers. CMM needs volunteer clerical help, age 13 and up, in its Glen Burnie office for a variety of tasks to help spread the word about mediation throughout the state. Greyhound Welfare, Inc.

The mission of this all volunteer nonprofit is to place ex-racing greyhounds into adoptive homes and to educate the public on greyhound and animal welfare. Volunteers, 21 and older, help with public outreach, the newsletter, screening adoption applications, adoption-follow-up, dog-transport to special events, planning and implementing fundraising events and donation drives, order supplies, write routine correspondence, pick up donations, coordinate veterinary care, foster a greyhound during the transition period before an adoptive home is found, and much more. Light House Shelter

This emergency shelter facility provides shelter for single men and women and families and runs a transitional housing program in Annapolis. Due to unseasonably cold weather, there is an immediate need for volunteer staffing support, age 18 and over, for the severe weather bed program. The first and most important need is to have additional volunteers overnight to monitor the clients spending the night in the day center. There is also an ongoing need for volunteers to help with the food program, children’s programs, facilities cleaning & maintenance, office and administration, and adult education programs. Quilts for Kids, Annapolis Chapter

The national organization’s mission is to keep expensive fabric out of our landfills and bring happiness to children through the simple gift of a handmade quilt. Volunteers, age 15 and up, are needed for an ongoing project to serve children in hospitals in Annapolis and surrounding communities. Basic sewing skills are necessary but instruction will be provided for quilting. Volunteers must have a sewing machine and transportation. Quilting workshops are held monthly on the second Saturday of the month from 8 am–12 noon at the Bay Area Community Church upstairs in room 223. Everyone is welcome! Volunteer Maryland

Founded in 1992, Volunteer Maryland works with nonprofit agencies to provide human and environmental services across the state.  Join Volunteer Maryland, an AmeriCorps program of the Governor’s office, to learn about other organizations and how Volunteer Maryland can be a resource in moving your agency’s volunteer program forward.
