Snow Patrol

With winter weather on the way, groups and individual volunteers are needed for Snow Patrol. The Department of Aging and Disabilities is partnering with the Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County and the Citizens Corps Council to recruit and deploy church youth groups, families (and individuals), scouts, and high school groups as well as adult organizations for the “Snow Patrol”.

Every winter, the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities receives calls from isolated seniors with medical needs and individuals with disabilities for assistance with removing snow and ice.  Meals on Wheels volunteers or caregivers are not able to get down driveways and sidewalks to provide food or medical assistance. Patients needing dialysis cannot safely walk through the mounds of snow and ice to reach the Dept. of Aging & Disabilities bus that has come to take them to their clinic. These are just some of the problems encountered by the elderly with medical needs or disabled individuals whenever a heavy snow or ice storm strikes in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.

This is a call for groups and individuals to register with the Volunteer Center for the Snow Patrol. Volunteers need to contact us now and must pre-register in order to help residents with disabilities and medical needs during this winter’s storms.

Please visit the Volunteer Center’s website to download registration information and forms at www.volunteerannearundel.org/PDFstan/2010SnowPatrol.pdf
