Anne Arundel County Police Seize Stolen Power Tools. Anne Arundel County police have recovered 78 pieces of power equipment worth $15,000 stolen during several burglaries at a mobile home community in Lothian.Police are looking for the owners of the equipment, which includes chain saws, power washers, generators, electrical power hand tools and air compressors.The equipment was stolen during a series a break-ins of sheds at the Rio Vista Plaza mobile home community.

Police Probe Pizza Delivery Man’s Slaying In SevernAnne Arundel County police are investigating the slaying of a food delivery man over the weekend.Officials said 46-year-old Ghulam Farooq was robbed and stabbed to death in Severn at about 7 p.m. Saturday while he was trying to deliver food to the Meade Village Apartments.Farooq worked for Pizza Boli’s. The branch’s manager said when he didn’t come back, they started to worry.”We were waiting and waiting, and he wasn’t coming back,” said Pizza Boli’s Manager Javed Angun.

O’Malley Considers Across The Board Cuts For Education. Gov. Martin O’Malley is considering a 5 percent across-the-board cut in state aid for public education. State Budget Secretary T. Eloise Foster has proposed the cut, which the governor’s office said would save more than $200 million.Maryland is facing a $1.3 billion budget shortfall in the upcoming fiscal year. The possible 5 percent cut was revealed in a letter from Foster to Prince George’s County Schools Superintendent William Hite, who has asked the state for an additional $139 million in funding.

Track Owners Continue To Work On Racing Schedule. Maryland horse racing stakeholders met privately last week to hammer out an agreement that could be presented to the Maryland Racing Commission concerning the Preakness and the future of the sport in the state.Confusion reins over whether there really is an agreement to save Maryland’s horse racing industry. One industry source describes the situation as fluid, 11 News I-Team reporter David Collins said Monday.According to one horse racing industry insider, some at the meeting left thinking that the plan they hammered out will be presented at the next Racing Commission meeting, but now no one is sure.
