Horsemen Frustrated By Live Racing Problem. Maryland horsemen said while the Maryland Racing Commission’s rejection of a proposal to significantly reduce live racing — putting the Preakness and 10,000 jobs in jeopardy — is alarming, they believe there are still bargaining chips out there.No race schedule jeopardizes the Preakness and injects more uncertainty into the future of horse racing.

Cops: Woman Throws Child Down 6 Stories At Mall.  A toddler has died after police said she was thrown six stories off a shopping mall walkway in Virginia by a woman believed to be her grandmother.Police said the 2½-year-old girl fell Monday night from a walkway that links the mall to a parking garage at Tysons Corner Center. The girl was taken to a hospital, where she later died.Fairfax County police spokeswoman Tawny Wright said 50-year-old Carmela Dela Rosa of Fairfax was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding.

Alcoholic Energy Drinks Banned In Some MD Areas. There’s a new crackdown on those controversial energy drinks that have a dangerous combination of caffeine and alcohol.On Tuesday, the Baltimore City Health Department told stores that by Thursday, that type of drink can no longer be sold. Howard County also announced that it will begin enforcing a similar ban by the close of business on Wednesday.”These drinks are marketed to young adults, despite the fact that one container provides the alcohol equivalent of three beers. Nobody could or should try to consume that type of drink,” said Howard County Executive Ken Ulman.

Big Ben Wearing Big Boot, Expected To Play Sunday. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is wearing a protective boot on his sprained right foot but is expected to play Sunday when Pittsburgh and Baltimore face off for first place in the AFC North. Roethlisberger re-injured the foot during a 19-16 overtime victory in Buffalo last Sunday. He did not leave the game and had an 18-yard run while scrambling after getting hurt. Roethlisberger may not practice Wednesday, but coach Mike Tomlin is optimistic he will play.
