Local Student Dies In Frostburg Blaze

A local woman was killed in an early morning blaze in Frostburg. Student Alyssa Salazar, 20, from Annapolis was trapped in her apartment above a pizza store that caught fire in the college town early this morning.  Salazar was a sophomore at Frostburg State University.

According to AP reports first reported on TBD.com:

A university spokeswoman said Friday the victims are 23-year-old Evan Kullberg of Frostburg and 20-year-old Alyssa Salazar of Annapolis.

Deputy State Fire Marshal Bruce Bouch (bowtch) says the victims made two calls to 911 saying they were trapped in a second-floor apartment after another building occupant reported the fire about 4:20 a.m.

Bouch says the fire originated in a first-floor apartment. He says 10 occupants of the five-unit building escaped the blaze.

The building on East Main Street also housed Malino’s Pizza Shop. Bouch says Kullberg was a co-owner of the restaurant.
