Babies Coming 9 Months After Blizzard. Friday marks the nine-month anniversary of “snowmageddon” — the February blizzard that shut down much of Maryland for days. Some couples used that time to, well, get a little closer and at least one Baltimore-area hospital is seeing the results.How could anyone in Maryland forget the blizzards that delivered record-breaking snowfalls that brought businesses, schools and life in general to a standstill?

Former Police Lieutenant Pleads Guilty In Sexting Case. A former Anne Arundel County police lieutenant pleaded guilty Thursday to receiving child pornography from a 16-year-old girl with whom he had a sexual relationship.Under the plea agreement, James Cifala, 47, of Edgewater, will likely be sentenced to 60 months in prison.Police said Cifala talked with the girl between 2007 and 2009 about having sex, but said they had to wait until she was 16 because she had to earn his trust that she wouldn’t tell others.

Cordish Pursuing Temporary Casino At Mall. Now that slots zoning has been approved at a location near Arundel Mills Mall, a temporary slots parlor could open as early as next year.A permanent facility planned next to the mall won’t be complete until 2012, according to developer David Cordish, who offered only a few details on Thursday on what he hopes to do.Cordish confirmed that he’s exploring constructing a temporary casino at the mall. The building would hold about 2,300 slot machines and be in operation until a permanent facility with more than 4,700 slots is completed sometime in 2012.

Paintballer Charged With Cruelty To Ducks. A Prince George’s County man faces animal cruelty charges after he was accused of shooting paintballs at ducks in Hagerstown’s City Park.Nathaniel Herring, 18, of Capitol Heights had his bail set at $7,000 Wednesday in a court hearing in Hagerstown.Police allege Herring fired paintballs early on the morning of July 30 at several ducks, as well as concession stand windows.He is charged with inflicting unnecessary suffering or pain on an animal and trespassing.Herring told the judge he has no criminal convictions but is facing assault charges filed by his mother.
