South River Students To Be Tried As Adults

UPDATE 10:16pm 10/14/10: Jacob Dick was arrested and briefly held and has posted bail and has been released.

This report just in from the Anne Arundel County Police Department:

On October 14, 2010, investigators met with the State’s Attorney’s Office and presented additional evidence collected during the investigation. The State’s Attorney’s Office determined the suspects should be charged as adults and arrest warrants were subsequently obtained. The suspects are identified as:
Suspect #1: Jacob Dick, 2054 Huntwood Drive, Gambrills, 17-years-old.
Charges: 1st degree assault, 2nd degree assault, reckless endangerment, disturbance of school operations, and mayhem
Suspect #2: Vernon Kilory Johnson, 148 Brightwater Drive, Annapolis, 17-years-old.
Charges: 1st degree assault, two counts of 2nd degree assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, disturbance of school operations, and mayhem
Jacob Dick was taken into custody and the warrants served early this afternoon. Vernon Johnson, who is still in juvenile custody, is expected to be served early next week. The victim has been released from the hospital and continues to recover from the incident.

The school also just sent out a robo call (501pm) directing parent to a letter on the school’s website. In the letter, Mr. Myers indicates that he has been in touch with the Central Office to convey his feelings on this matter. He stops short of saying what punishment the school will be administering, however, with criminal charges of 1st and 2nd degree assault by the State’s Attorney they will be hard pressed to deem this a simple “fight”.
