Pedestrian Hit By Car In Pasadena Dies. A man who was hit by a car late Friday night in Anne Arundel County has died. Police said John O’Conner was hit by a car near Fort Smallwood Road shortly before 11 p.m. Friday. He was taken to Shock Trauma, and he died Saturday afternoon.Detectives said O’Conner wasn’t in a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash and was in a dark area while wearing dark clothing.Police said he was struck by a vehicle heading north on Fort Smallwood Road driven by Scott Berenbach, 29, of Baltimore.

Cordish: Anti-Slots Ads Full Of Lies. The developer behind the attempt to bring slots to the Arundel Mills Mall area claims that the TV ads condemning the project are full of lies.Developer David Cordish has a license to open a slots parlor next to Arundel Mills Mall, but neighbors teamed up with the Maryland Jockey Club to try to stop it and move the slots location to a horse track in Laurel Park.”The Arundel Mills Mall is a family-friendly environment, and a slots parlor just doesn’t belong there,” claims a TV ad for the anti-slots movement.Cordish condemned the ad.

Walk To School Day Promoted For Health, Climate.  Wednesday is Walk to School day, an idea being promoted as a way to not only help keep students healthy but also improve the environment.Organizers said the percentage of students walking or bicycling to school in the United States has dropped from 41 percent in 1969 to 13 percent in 2001. Obesity among children, meanwhile, increased from 6.5 percent in 1980 to 19.6 percent in 2008.Proponents said walking and bicycling are healthy physical activities that stimulate brain development while reducing pollution and roadway congestion.

Boy, 7, Finds Fossil At Dinosaur Park. A 7-year-old boy from Elkridge found a fossil at a dinosaur park in Laurel that appears to date back about 116 million years. Aidan Isenstadt found the approximately 1 1/2 inch jawbone fragment last month while fossil hunting. Matthew Carrano, curator of dinosaurs at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, said the fragment is part of a juvenile meat-eating dinosaur.He said he believes the find is the first jawbone from a meat-eating dinosaur ever found in Maryland.
