UPDATE: Attempted Child Abduction

This bulletin was just received by the Anne Arundel County Police Department regarding the attempted abduction of a girl in the Shipley’s Choice neighborhood in Severna Park/Millersville.

On August 24, 2010, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a juvenile female was walking home in the area of Rustling Oaks and Locust Thorn Court in Millersville when a small, red four door sedan with dark tinted windows stopped next to her. A man in a car pulled up and inquired about the student’s parent not having picked the student up.

The student quickly ran from the scene and reported the incident to an adult, who contacted the police department. There was no attempt to grab the child and the child was not physically harmed in any way. The police department is working closely with the school system in an attempt to identify the individual in the vehicle. At this time, it appears no crime has been committed, there have been no similar complaints and the department continues to look into the matter. If any parent might have approached a student to offer them a ride home with good intentions, please contact the Eastern District at 410-222-6145

Please take this opportunity to remind your children to travel in groups, report any suspicious activity to a responsible adult, develop an action plan if a dangerous situation should arise and always be vigilant of your surroundings.
