Welcome to a new feature!  Each week, we will highlight volunteer opportunities around the county. We are partnering with the Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County to bring these opportunities to give back each week. 1000 Women Can Change the World

The mission of this nonprofit organization is to inspire, enlighten and empower women worldwide by providing them with practical life and business skills by using technology to provide useful, practical  information that is easy to access, understand and pass on to others. There is an immediate need for volunteer administrative assistance. Volunteers are also are needed with expertise in women’s issues, linguistics & language, fundraising, and public relations to advance the organization’s goals; sponsors are also needed to provide resources to accomplish the goals of the organization. Annapolis Woodworkers Guild

This nonprofit educational and cooperative organization of men and women work with wood and want to learn more about the fine art of woodworking. They meet at 7:00 PM on the second Thursday each month at the Parkwood United Methodist Church in Edgewater. The Guild builds planters, benches, signs, tables and other items for local nonprofit organizations that provide the lumber. Anne Arundel Community College Center for Learning Through Service

The Center for Learning Through Service at Anne Arundel Community College promotes citizenship and learning through service by providing opportunities for students, faculty and staff to serve the community.  The center works with over 100 community partners to match college volunteers with community needs. Anne Arundel County Board of Elections
The Board of Elections is seeking Election Judges to work six Early Voting Days in five Early Voting Sites and on Election Days in 189 polling sites throughout Anne Arundel County for the Sept. 14, 2010 Gubernatorial Primary Election, and the Nov. 2, 2010 Gubernatorial General Election. Early voting will occur six days prior to each election (excepting Sunday). Among other basic physical requirements, candidates must be registered voters, speak, read & write English, and able to attend a 3 to 6 hour training class. Anne Arundel County CASA

CASA needs volunteers for both Court Appointed Special Advocates and Friends of CASA. Each Special Advocate is screened and trained to make a difference in the life of an abused or neglected child. Extensive trainings are scheduled after potential volunteers are interviewed and screened. Friends of CASA are volunteers who assist with fund-raisers, or donate other talents and resources. Citizens Corps Council in Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis

The Citizens Corps Council includes community service organizations, faith based organizations and the private sector which engage in specific projects in working groups. The Council’s mission is to make the County and City safer, stronger and better prepared through service and volunteerism that focuses on all hazards, emergency preparedness, and public safety. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month and the public is invited. Que Options Inc., Ft. Meade Youth Triathlon, Sat., September 18, 2010

Que Options is a non-profit organization which develops and administers social programs for the underserved population. Services provided include housing support, job training, transition services, and internships & scholarships.  Que Options Inc. is partnering with Fort Meade Army Community Services by providing volunteer support for their upcoming Youth Triathlon of 18 September starting at 7:00 am at Gaffney Fitness Center at Fort Meade, MD. Volunteers must attend a short orientation 6 pm on September 16. H.O.P.E., Inc. (He Opens the Path to Everyone)

H.O.P.E., Inc. is an all-volunteer non-profit Christian ministry serving families in need in the north AA County, Baltimore City areas and also the Appalachian region by collecting and distributing donated school supplies, household goods and furniture, and clothing.
