From the Anne Arundel County Public Schools:
For the upcoming school year, Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) will officially welcome about 312 new teachers to the county through its Right Start Teacher Support Program, helping the county’s freshest crop of educators take a positive and well-informed step into their careers at AACPS.
Last night at Old Mill High School, Anne Arundel County Board of Education Vice President Teresa Milio Birge and Superintendent of Schools Kevin M. Maxwell will provide words of encouragement to kick off the annual new teacher orientation.
The three-day event allows educators to become familiar with school system procedures and protocol, as well as receive valuable information on topics related to their content or program areas. Helpful hints on time management, work ethic, and discipline, among other issues, will also be shared.
Teachers will also spend time at their home schools to become acclimated to their classrooms and daily work environment.
A part of the AACPS Right Start Teacher Support Program, all new teachers are assigned to a veteran educator who serves as a mentor. The mentors, known as Right Start Advisors, will coach their mentees throughout the school year and provide helpful advice.
