Slots Are ON The Ballot

Yesterday, the State’s highest court overturned Judge Silkworth’s ruling that the slot machine initiative not be on the ballot. This has been a back and forth issue since The Cordish Company put forth a plan to develop a slot machine parlor in the vicinity of the Arundel Mills Mall. The opponents are contending that slots were intended for Laurel Park, despite the clear wording on the ballot in 2008.

The Baltimore Sun’s Nicole Fuller has a good review of the ruling.

The ballot question to be included with November’s elections will NOT be for the approval of a slot machine parlor; but to overturn the ZONING approved by the County Council to allow the slot parlor to proceed as submitted by Cordish.  As election season heats up, there likely will be a big push both for and against the referendum. It would be in the best interest of the voters of Anne Arundel County to know the issues and understand the question so we are not mired in another dispute.
