Poll: Economy Could Tank Incumbents.  The latest poll on the Maryland governor’s race finds that the No. 1 issue of the respondents is the economy, and the poll suggests that isn’t good for incumbents.The campaign mantra from Democratic incumbent Gov. Martin O’Malley is jobs, and a new poll released Tuesday by Gonzales Research and Marketing indicates that if the economy doesn’t improve by Election Day, O’Malley may find himself unemployed.

MD Among ‘Race To The Top” Finalists’. Maryland has been named one of 19 finalists for funding through the federal government’s Race to the Top program.U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan made the announcement Tuesday.Maryland is eligible for up to $250 million in the grant program’s second round. The state did not apply in the first round of the competition.

Southern MD Man Faces Child Porn Charges. A 20-year-old Southern Maryland man faces child pornography charges that could result in more than 40 years in prison upon conviction.Troopers charged Paul C. Stanley, of Owings, on Tuesday with four counts of distributing child pornography, one count of making a false statement to a police officer and one count of obstructing and hindering.Stanley could face 41 years in prison and/or $100,000 in fines if convicted.Earlier this month, a trooper assigned to the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force identified a computer on the Internet that was offering pornographic videos of children for others to download. State police said troopers traced the computer to Stanley.

Police: Mom Gives Birth, Throws Baby Out Window. Baltimore County police said a newborn child was found in the bushes behind a house in Reisterstown.Police said the 21-year-old mother of the baby had thrown the child out of a second-floor window right after giving birth, and that the baby survived the fall. The woman’s identity hasn’t been released.Police said the mother gave birth to the baby girl, separated her from her body and tossed the newborn out of the window, where she landed in a row of bushes 10 feet to 12 feet below.Moments later, the woman’s sister heard the baby’s cries, police said.

MD Officials: Hundreds Bought Fake Insurance. Hundreds of Marylanders have fallen victim to what government officials have called a scam involving fake health plans sold to people across the country.One of those people, Bob Harper, needed a pacemaker.”Without that pacemaker, I’m in miserable condition here,” Harper said. “I can just, basically, fall over at any time.”Glenda Hey spent time in the hospital for chest pain and shortness of breath.”The doctor said I was probably having heart failure or congestive heart failure,” Hey said.Both Harper and Hey, who first spoke with WBAL-TV’s sister station in Oklahoma City, KOCO-TV, in April, said they purchased health insurance through a company doing business out of Tennessee called American Trade Association.
