More Changes For Area Public Transportation

The City of Annapolis will be holding public hearings on July 29th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm to discuss further reductions of service and increased fares for public transportation. Among the ideas being considered are:

  • The elimination of the C-40 Route which serves Edgewater and Arnold including Anne Arundel Community College
  • The increase of the base fare by 100% ($1 to $2)
  • Establishing a $1 fare for the currently free shuttle between the US Navy-Marine Corps Stadium
  • Elimination of the “Free Fare” zone currently in place downtown
  • Adding more no service days to coincide with any day City Hall is closed

In a public notice issued by the City, they claim that the C-40 route was launched in 2003 and was funded through the Federal Job
Access Reverse Commute (JARC) program, and subsequently funded through the State of Maryland Rural and Community Based (RCB) Services program. The route was intended to assist city residents looking for job opportunities outside of Annapolis.

However, they continue to say that the rote is costing the City $225,000 annually.
