Two Officers Shoot Suspect In Hostage SituationAnne Arundel Police Department

As The Arundel Muckraker first reported this afternoon, there was a hostage situation in a business on Cabover Drive near the BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport this afternoon where the police shot one man and another was injured.

Anne Arundel County Police have just released the following statement regarding the incident where two officers fired upon the suspect and killed him.

On June 29, 2009, at approximately 2:25 p.m., officers from the Western District responded to a business in the 2600 block of Cabover Drive in Hanover for a report of a fight.

Upon arrival, officers were confronted inside of the business by a suspect, who was armed with an edged weapon and holding another individual against their will. The officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect for nearly 20 minutes before the officers perceived the victim’s life to be in imminent danger. At that time, two officers discharged their weapons and struck the suspect. The victim, a 26-year-old male from Sparks, Maryland, was subsequently rescued and transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with non-life threatening lacerations to his body that had been inflicted by the suspect. The suspect was also transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. The reason for this incident and motive of the suspect is still under investigation. The victim and suspect were not known to each other prior to this incident and the names of the officers involved in this incident are not being released at this time.

Suspect: Imani Rashad Lee, a 30 year-old male from Baltimore, Maryland (deceased)
