Attorney General’s Aide Charged With DWI. Anne Arundel County police said the director of the attorney general’s civil rights office is facing drunken driving charges.Carl O. Snowden was arrested early Tuesday in Crownsville after police said an officer saw his car veer across the center line on Route 97 and straddle the shoulder several times.A police report said the officer noticed the smell of alcohol as Snowden said he’d had one drink. Police said a breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of .09 percent.Snowden is charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, negligent driving and other traffic offenses.This was Snowden’s third drunken driving arrest since 2002.
Experts: Economic Gloom Surrounds Baltimore. The Solo Cup Company plant closure raises questions about the health of Maryland’s economy and job market.The tide of gloomy news goes back to mid-May when Office Depot announced cuts at a warehouse in Anne Arundel County, more than 130 people lost their jobs.At the Port of Baltimore, Kia and Hyundai moved their shipping business to Philadelphia, cutting 116 jobs at the port.Legg Mason recently announced it was cutting 250 jobs, as well.Local economists said it adds up to a bad ripple effect for Baltimore’s bottom line.
Missing AL Teen’s Mom Opens Natalee Holloway Center. The mother of an Alabama teen who disappeared in Aruba in 2005 said it’s been a stressful time for her but she hopes a new resource center named for her daughter will help guide families of missing persons. Beth Holloway spoke briefly Tuesday to launch the Natalee Holloway Resource Center at the National Museum of Crime & Punishment in Washington.The center has a 24-hour hot line to call for those concerned about missing persons. Solo Cup To Close MD Facility; 540 To Lose Jobs. Solo Cup Co. has announced that it plans to shut down its Owings Mills manufacturing facility in March 2012, resulting in the loss of hundreds of jobs.The company made the announcement on Tuesday, saying the closure is due to improved production efficiency of 10 of its other plants across the country.The closure means about 540 people will lose their jobs, company officials said.
