Obama Taps Annapolis Man For Gulf Spill Team.  President Barack Obama is tapping a local professor for ideas to help deal with the crisis in the Gulf.Dr. Donald Boesch is the president of the University of Maryland’s Center for Environmental Science.He will be working with a bipartisan team to make recommendations on how to prevent and mitigate the impact of any future spills that result from off-shore drilling.

Food Stamps Now Usable At Some Farmer’s Markets. Families who use food stamps can now use them at select farmer’s markets in Baltimore city.Every Wednesday, vendors from all around set up in the parking lot of Pimlico Race Course and other markets so residents can have the opportunity to buy fresh from the farm produce.Pimlico, the Waverly Farmer’s Market on 32nd Street and the market in Highlandtown are all taking part in the new food stamp exchange program.

O’Malley Officially Files Re-Election BidGov. Martin O’Malley has formally filed with the state elections board to run for a second term. The governor filed at the Maryland State Board of Elections on Wednesday afternoon. Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown also filed with O’Malley, who is a Democrat. The filing deadline is July 6. Former Gov. Robert Ehrlich, a Republican who is running in a rematch against O’Malley, has not formally filed yet.

Program To Clear Up Non-Violent Warrants Begins.  People wanted for nonviolent offenses in the Baltimore area are getting a unique opportunity to turn themselves in.The U.S. Marshals Service program known as Fugitive Safe Surrender launched Wednesday. It offers people with open warrants a chance for favorable treatment in a comfortable location.
