Promote Your Non-Profit, Business Or Organization

Are you looking to get the news out about what you do? Online? Newspapers? Magazines? Television?

Mark your calendar for the second installment of the PR Bazaar to be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 from 6pm to about 9pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church on DuBois Road in Annapolis.

Wendi Winters, a freelance journalist, puts this program together to bring organizations, businesses and media together.  There are a wealth of opportunities in the area to spread your message to the masses–you might as well take advantage of them.

Last night, we participated in the event as the only 100% online media outlet. Among the others there were Whats Up? Media Group, The Capital, Severna Park Voice, Maryland Public Television, Spin Sheet, The Annapolis Times, and Bay Weekly. Next week there will be a fresh round of participants.

Each panelist had the opportunity to introduce themselves prior to moving on to a round table discussion with the  50 plus people in attendance. One of the points I made was that in the new media world, the walls of competition are coming down. Two of the newspapers represented last night told of their struggles and MPT echoed those sentiments. In the new media world, different media outlets need to work with each other and feed off of each other to contribute to a cohesive and common growth.

Nadja Maril, Editor for What’s Up? Media Group wrote a good piece this morning on her takeaway from the event. It was interesting how most of her questions were centered on deadlines and advance notice, where mine were decidedly based on social media and online presence.

Organizations and businesses need to realize that all media is not right for them all of the time. For example, we do not have a community events calendar. Sure we will cover the events and announce them, but if your organization is looking to be listed on a calendar, the What’s Up? Calendar is the most comprehensive and thorough one in the area.

There is a small donation requested at the door, but you walk away with a bag (literally) full of goodies. Wendi has produced a wonderful resource guide with the names, numbers, and submission guidelines for each publication and you will get a sample of their work–except ours, we’re only online!
